KKD - Faux Roman Earrings

This piece is meant to emulate 2000 year old Roman Glass. Roman Glass is found by digging down into the earth anywhere there was an Ancient Roman settlement and pulling up archeological remains, including pieces of broken glass. Because of the length of time the glass is in the ground, it builds up a layer of mineral deposits that shine, are iridescent and have an amazing variety of colors. Unfortunately, this patina, when touched or gotten wet, can come off the real glass. I created these pieces to emulate the beauty of the Roman glass, but make something more durable for every day wear.

To create these pieces, I bake a thin, translucent, layer of polymer clay into the ring. This clay is than built up with liquid polymer clay and metallic pigment powders to emulate the depth and texture of the real Roman Glass. Finally, a thin layer of jewelers quality Ice Resin is poured over the top for shine and that glass like quality.

The colors on these pieces vary widely. Typical combinations of color are blue, green and yellow; orange, pink and yellow; blue, orange and gold; or where ever your imagination takes you. The items photographed are examples of pieces made previously. All are similar in color but unique as they are hand made. You can request photos of the pair you will be receiving.
