Kathleen Byrne - Love Heals
Behind the Art: The colors in this piece are colors from the many LGBTQIA+ Pride flags. It was enlightening to learn that there are several different pride flags, representing all types of love and identities. Also, the bottom layer is gold leaf, paying homage to the Japanese tradition of Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery with urushi lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, thereby making something "broken" into something beautiful. I thought about how love heals the broken parts of ourselves, so I wanted to reference that idea in this piece.
